Federal Laws Regarding the Number of Hours You Can Work

If you are 14 or 15 you can work:
  • Outside school after 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM, except from June 1 through Labor Day, when you can work until 9pm
  • No more than 18 hours during a school week
  • 3 hours on a school day
  • 8 hours on a non-school day
  • 40 hours on non-school weeks
If you are over 16 you can work:
  • Any day
  • Any time of day
  • Any number of hours
  • No restriction on the number of hours
